Former U.S. President, Bill Clinton was one of the top level speakers at Ripple Swell 2018 Conference. The event took place on October 1 and 2. According to the official information, Clinton shared his insights on blockchian technology and spoke about its great potential.
The former president started sharing his insights by commenting on his previous experience. “There was an initial disparity in accessing such technologies and the need to overcome such disparities was very important”, he said. According to Clinton, as technologies such as blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, and robotics keep developing, accessing them increases as well.
Meanwhile he also spoke about regulations in the field of the new technology. His main point here was that there is still a lot to do. He stated: “you can’t apply an old regulatory regime to a new technology… you end up killing the goose that laid the golden egg”.
While commenting on the potential of blockchain technology, Clinton stated that he sees a powerful future for it. This is due to its high accessibility “across national and international borders without excluding individuals based on their income group”. He also mentioned that politicians need to also work together in order to make such technologies safe for the society. He went on stating: “everything could be ruined by negative identity politics and economic and social policy”.
Clinton attended the conference together with Gene Sperling, the former economic adviser of the President during his tenure. They covered a wide range of topics at the event. Some of the key aspects included foreign policies and cultural issues present in the field of cryptocurrency and blockchain.
