Inventor of BitTorrent, Bram Cohen recently made some official comments about leaving the company after it had been acquired by Tron. In his comments Cohen clearly stated that he is no longer involved with BitTorrent confirming that he is currently working on another ground breaking environmentally friendly cryptocurrency project called Chia.
Bram Cohen first introduced BitTorrent to the public back in 2004 soon after what hundreds of millions of people embraced the technology making the project one of the most successful platforms in the market of online live news and entertainment.
Previously Cohen was however generally critical regarding cryptocurrencies expressing mostly negative public opinions which makes acquisition of BitTorrent by Tron rather ironic.
While so far there have not been any official announcements by Cohen regarding the recent deal between Tron and BitTorrent, according to the official source of Torrent Freak, Cohen gave some short yet clear comments when the source reached out him directly. The source reports that Cohen noted: “I have no involvement with Tron” confirming that he “no longer has an official role at BitTorrent Inc”.
Torrent Freak also made own comments regarding Cohen recent announcements also judging from history stating that “it is no secret that BitTorrent’s inventor had started to distance himself from the company he founded, but the responses we received suggest that he has moved on permanently, which is a big deal. Unfortunately, Cohen didn’t comment any further on the issue. One can imagine, however, that seeing the company he built from the ground up being placed in the hands of a crypto millionaire, isn’t what he envisioned”.
Finally the source suggested that “BitTorrent Inc. certainly loses some of its flair, without Bram Cohen. It’s the end of an era and, at the same time, the start of an uncertain future”.
