Tron’s founder and CEO, Justin Sun today, on July 24, officially confirmed the news on acquiring BitTorrent. The recent news on the acquisition has been going around the crypto community for a while now however no official confirmations or announcements have been made so far.
The official announcement by BitTorrent on their Twitter page stated: “it’s official. BitTorrent is now part of Tron. We pioneered the world’s largest decentralized p2p protocol, now we’re joining forces with TRON to build the future of the decentralized internet. Read more here”.
BitTorrent reportedly possesses more than 100 million active users all around the world as of now. It is one of the top-rated apps on Google Play currently and from now on will officially be operating from Tron’s new San Francisco location. As informed in the company’s official blog post, the new office will become the main center of operations for the company’s global market expansion. “The division will provide robust support for Tron’s global business development and partnerships while pursuing its vision for the world’s largest decentralized ecosystem”, highlighted the blog post.
Justin Sun’s official announcement on the acquisition stated: “Proud to announce BitTorrent and uTorrent are now part of the Tron family. BitTorrent is supported by over 100M active users. Together we are building the future of the decentralized Internet! Stay tuned for updates!”
Recently it has been noticeable that BitTorrent has been losing its previous value and positioning in the market compared to its significance during early days of the internet. Meanwhile, as promised by the company leaders, the nowadays internet which is represented by the blockchain, will have a measurable positive influence on the company performance due to the decentralised network such as Tron.
